  • Upper School Head
    Start Date: 07/01/2025

Description

University Lake School, a preprimary-12th grade college preparatory school in Hartland, Wisconsin, is seeking a bright, innovative, and inspiring leader to serve as the next Upper School Head.

Expectations include:

This leader will be thoughtful, inquisitive, open-minded, and committed to a life of learning. ULS is a vibrant and close-knit community of approximately 300 students where the needs of the whole student are met through a comprehensive approach to education. With a strong commitment to diversity of all forms including socioeconomic and neurodiversity, the school strives to create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive. ULS' distinctive identity includes its acclaimed Reggio-inspired early education program, which sets a foundation for creative, student-centered learning that challenges the Upper School to match its innovative spirit and joy. ULS has a rich history of providing a transformative educational experience, grounded in its four Branches of the Pine: intellectual curiosity, original thinking, personal integrity, and character through service. The next Upper School Head will embody these ideals and will partner with the Head of School to inspire students, teachers, and families alike to develop a rich life of the mind.

ULS is at a critical inflection point, poised for growth and transformation as it works to serve an increasingly diverse student body and prepare learners for lives of leadership and service to humanity. The Upper School Head position is an exciting opportunity to shape a 21st-century educational vision that moves beyond standard AP courses toward more engaging, ambitious programming that addresses the looming questions of our day. The Upper School Head will emphasize inspiration and collaboration rather than compliance and hierarchy, with the chance to reimagine traditional educational models while building on the school's established strengths.

Reporting to Head of School John Dewis, the Upper School Head will join a community of belonging that “no one ever wishes to leave.” The role involves collaborating with a bright and ambitious faculty to enhance the academic program, strengthen student support services—including leveraging the Falk Family Center for Learning Engagement, which provides specialized support and programming for neurodiversity—and cultivate a community of learners where each student is known and loved. The Upper School Head must be capable of implementing innovative changes while building trust with a division confident in their expertise and autonomy, but also eager and willing to grow under the right leadership. An enthusiastic partner, leader, and coach, the Upper School Head will artfully use systems thinking and attention to detail to implement a new chapter for an exceptional school.
