How ULS’ Leadership Curriculum Makes the Most of Every Child’s Talents

The word “leadership” often evokes a single person in front of a group:

Leading the charge

Leading the team

It’s true that leadership often does mean putting yourself forward to inspire, inform or guide others. That’s why ULS’ curriculum emphasizes public speaking and performance at all levels, ensuring our students know how to present themselves effectively and persuade others respectfully.

Yet we believe leadership can often mean something else, such as:

  • Contributing in large or small ways to a cause you believe in
  • Taking on a menial task, away from the spotlight
  • Listening rather than talking
  • Offering someone a kind word, just because
  • Recognizing when you need help — and asking for it
