How Music Fills Our Minds and More

The music program at ULS goes beyond the basics — it builds imagination, creative thinking, intellectual curiosity and teamwork. Students expand auditory skills, recognize patterns, increase memorization skills, and explore the study and personal expression of music. It is a symphony of learning at its finest.

Lower School

Play the xylophone, bang the bongos, and plink on the piano.

Sing in a chorus or belt out a solo.

Compose a song or dance to the beat.

Students can do it all in Lower School music class.

Music instruction is lively and engaging with our dedicated music teacher who leads the students to develop creative skills, explore the role of music within culture and society, and perform for parents twice per year in the winter and spring concert. Every other year, the Lower School also performs a musical on stage.

Middle School

In Middle School, students delve into the personal expression of music. The 5th and 6th graders expand their skills through singing and playing instruments, such as hand chimes, xylophones, African drums and keyboards. The 7th and 8th graders develop beginning choral skills with focused attention on sight-singing, music literacy, listening and history. The ULS Music Program is showcased twice per year in winter and spring concerts.

Upper School

The love of music continues into the Upper School, where curricular offerings include both auditioned and non-auditioned choirs, music theory, and music history and appreciation. Additionally, Upper School students may participate in various extracurricular ensembles, including a handbell ensemble. The music program is showcased twice a year at winter and spring concerts. Students also have the opportunity to shine on stage during the annual musical. Learn more in Theatre.
