University Lake School (ULS) is seeking an experienced, innovative, student-centered, globally-aware English teacher who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of students while using scientifically researched strategies in teaching English to challenge students to read, write, speak, and think critically. Collaboration and teamwork are priorities that are essential for success. This appointment is valid for the 2025-2026 school year.

Expectations include:

  • Emphasize writing as a process, speech as a rhetorical art, language as a structural craft, and reading through critical analysis.
  • Engage students in the excitement and curiosity of reading great literature and analyzing together.
  • Innovate fresh ideas, perspectives, and strategies to prepare students for life in a global community.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and develop lessons, classroom experiences, and authentic assessments that encourage student inquiry and discussion.
  • Demonstrate expertise in and passion for the assigned content areas.
  • Create an environment where student voice and choice are discovered and honored.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Understand developmental, social-emotional, and academic needs of the adolescent student.
  • Contribute to the School culture by establishing rapport with students and their families, serving as a student advocate, and participating in school-wide events.
  • Collaborate as a team player with colleagues and administrators. 
  • Communicate effectively and timely with the School community.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development. 
  • Represent the School as a steward of the community both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Recognize and strive to use our outdoor campus as an important tool in the teaching toolbox.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in English or English Education or related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and depth of academic engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a classroom of high-achieving and differentiated learners.
