  • Upper School Math/Computer Science Teacher - Part Time or Full Time

Description

We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and globally aware Upper School Math and/or Computer Science Teacher who is passionate about 1) making a difference in the lives of students; 2) challenging them to think critically; 3) creating an engaging student experience; and 4) fostering a love for and mastery of mathematics that is both conceptual and practical. This appointment is available for the 2024-25 school year with the possibility of extension.

The University Lake School (ULS) math curriculum stresses definition, proof, and logical thinking in order to allow students to analyze information, make connections, and apply knowledge to fresh situations. We believe problem-solving and strategy are fundamental to the development of mathematical thinking.

Classes may include Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calc AB, Calc BC, and for the right candidate may also include Computer Science from introductory to more advanced courses.

Expectations include:

  • Teach two to three Upper School math courses as assigned by the Division Head in a way that engages students in a challenging and supportive environment.
  • Teach one to two Computer Science courses and work with a team to build out and expand the CS scope and sequence from primary through twelfth grade.
  • Understand the unique developmental, social, and academic needs of Upper School students.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in their pursuit and development of academic excellence, organizational habits, and social leadership.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for the topics one teaches and develop lessons, classroom experiences, and assessments that encourage student inquiry, discussion, courage, and accountability.
  • Innovate with fresh ideas, perspectives, and strategies to prepare students for lives of flexibility and leadership in an evolving global community.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the assigned content areas and an excitement to learn.
  • Create an environment where student voice and choice are provoked, discovered, and honored.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Integrate the school campus into relevant lessons.
  • Contribute to the School culture by establishing rapport with students and their families, serving as an advisor and student advocate, and participating in school-wide events.
  • Collaborate as a team player with colleagues and administrators. 
  • Communicate effectively and timely with the School community.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development. 
  • Represent the School as a steward of the community both inside and outside the classroom.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Math Education or related field
  • Experience or proven ability to teach Calculus 
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and depth of academic engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a classroom of high-achieving and differentiated learners
